I was having a conversation with someone the other day about things we used to eat and drink as kids in the 80’s. Surprisingly, they had either never heard of or experienced some of the treats I brought up in this conversation. So you tell me…do you remember these?
Cragmont Soda
There were mainstream soft drinks, then there was Shasta, THEN there was Cragmont. My family didn’t have a lot of money when I was a kid so, most of the time (especially on long family road trips), this is what I got to drink. Most of their flavors were in short, 8 oz. cans and that’s usually what my mom bought. My favorite flavor however, Black Cherry Soda, was only in the 12 oz. can and I was able to convince my mom to buy me that on special occasions.
Liquid Center Gums
Each of these gums were filled with flavor syrup. You’d chew them for approximately three and a half minutes because that’s how long it took to get all the flavor out of the syrup. And don’t get me wrong, the flavors were great but, after that, you were just chewing an old shoe. It wasn’t uncommon for me to chew through an entire pack in an afternoon.
Dynamints
These were amazing. They were bigger than Tic-Tacs and the flavors were WAY better. My favorite flavors were the orange and green spearmint. Man, so damn good. Again, not unheard of for me to eat an entire box in an afternoon. Especially the spearmint.
